Football Recap: Carmel Takes a Loss

After flying high against Aptos last Friday, Carmel came back down to earth. The Padres had to suffer through a 57-21 loss at the hands of the Palma Chieftains. While losing is never fun, the Padres can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Chieftains are ranked 120th).

Eli Dukes had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 202 yards and three scores on only 12 carries for Palma. Dukes' longest rush was for an incredible 95 yards. David Garcia was in the mix as well, providing Palma with two touchdowns.

Carmel now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Palma, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carmel will head out to square off against Hollister at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Padres will be up against the Haybalers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Palma, they are taking a road trip to take on Aptos at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Chieftains will be up against the Mariners' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
