Football Recap: Hamilton Southeastern Takes Down Homestead in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Hamilton Southeastern had no trouble coming through when it counted. They strolled past the Homestead Spartans with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 24-10. The victory continues a trend for the Royals in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

Hamilton Southeastern found their leader in freshman Deaken Johnson, who threw for 341 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt. Those 341 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Johnson. 136 of Johnson's passing yards were hauled in by Kendrick Pennybaker.

Hamilton Southeastern's run defense was locked in: Homestead could only muster 0.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Adam Hoog for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hamilton Southeastern's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.5.

Hamilton Southeastern didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kian Kelly and Kyle Jenkins. Dominic Thomas was another major factor on D, picking up 2.5 sacks and making three total tackles.

Despite the loss, Homestead still got an impressive performance from Carter Kennedy, who picked up 146 receiving yards.
