Baseball Game Preview: Atlantic Christian Cougars vs. Gloucester County Christian Conquerors

The Atlantic Christian Cougars will square off against the Gloucester County Christian Conquerors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Atlantic Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Atlantic Christian is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Lower Cape May just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 7-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Atlantic Christian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Knuth, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Gloucester County Christian and Atlantic Christian meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on May 6th. The Conquerors fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-4.

JD Greenwood was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Gloucester County Christian's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Atlantic Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Atlantic Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like Gloucester County Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
