Basketball Recap: Monacan Takes a Loss

Monacan has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 61-53 to the Cosby Titans on Friday. The Chiefs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 78-59.

When it comes to explaining why Monacan lost, don't look at Amare Cooper. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 20 en route to 27 points. Cooper is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Dekari Riley, who posted six points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Monacan's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Cosby, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monacan has already played their next matchup (against Midlothian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Cosby will take on James River Midlothian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Cosby's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
