Baseball Game Preview: Coronado Dons vs. Yuma Criminals

For the second straight game, Coronado will face off against Yuma. Coronado is taking a road trip to take on Yuma at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Coronado has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Coronado is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Yuma on Monday. They came up short against the Criminals, falling 15-2.

For Yuma's part, Antonio Fierro looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Fierro a new career-high.

At the plate, Eli Lujan was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Andres Ortiz also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Yuma hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Yuma pushed their record up to 11-4-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
