Basketball Recap: Northern Durham Takes a Loss

Northern Durham lost against Person back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Northern Durham Knights opened the new year with a less-than-successful 65-52 defeat to the Person Rockets. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while the Rockets are ranked 82nd).

When it comes to explaining why Northern Durham lost, don't look at Camden Riley. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 10 en route to 23 points. With that strong performance, Riley is now averaging an impressive 16.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Moore, who posted eight points.

Northern Durham dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Person, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Northern Durham will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chapel Hill at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Chapel Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season. As for Person, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 70-47 win against Southern Alamance on the 7th.
