Winnebago and Genoa-Kingston are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Indians will head out to take on the Cogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Winnebago's offense. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (9-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered against the Cardinals since April 30, 2022.
Meanwhile, Genoa-Kingston waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Hornets 15-7. That's two games straight that the Cogs have won by exactly eight runs.
Elizabeth Davis made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Genoa-Kingston let Olivia Vasak and Arielle Rich run wild. Vasak went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Rich went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Rich has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aubree Simon, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Genoa-Kingston lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are undefeated (3-0) when they post two or more home runs.
The win got Genoa-Kingston back to even at 7-7-1. As for Winnebago, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Winnebago suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Genoa-Kingston when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
