Basketball Recap: Amherst Bulldogs vs. Whitharral Panthers
Amherst was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Whitharral Panthers, falling 73-14. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 71-17 on January 10th.
Whitharral found their leader in sophomore Paige Smith, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 35 points and six rebounds. That makes it 23 consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Whitharral's points. Another player making a difference was Rylee Kristinek, who went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points and five boards.
Amherst's defeat dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Whitharral, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 20-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Amherst will take on Wellman-Union at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Whitharral, they will square off against Meadow at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Whitharral has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 197 points over their last three contests.
