Basketball Recap: Poplar Springs Piles Up the Points Against Cottondale + How To Watch

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poplar Springs). They blew past the Cottondale Hornets, posting a 63-18 victory. While the Atomics didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Poplar Springs found their leader in freshman McKenzie Bell, who made all 6 shots she took racking up 16 points along with five assists and three steals. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Bell. Another player making a difference was Alex Bollon, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 13 points and five steals.

Poplar Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Poplar Springs is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.7 points on average over those games. As for Cottondale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Coincidentally, Poplar Springs and Cottondale will both be playing Altha the next time they take the court. The Hornets will host the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Atomics will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
