Baseball Recap: Classical Academy Caimans vs. Clairemont Chieftains
Classical Academy had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-10 to make it four. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clairemont Chieftains. The Caimans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chieftains apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2019.
Classical Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Travis Perry, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Clairemont, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games.
On Clairemont's side, Diego Matsumoto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.
On the hitting side, Luis Murrieta was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Nate Kelly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Classical Academy will venture away from home to square off against Santa Fe Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Clairemont, they will host Steele Canyon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
