Preview: Woodland Christian Cardinals vs. Banning Pilots
The Woodland Christian Cardinals are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Banning Pilots at 3:00 p.m. on December 9th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Woodland Christian had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 28-0 win over the Trojans on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Woodland Christian had established a 21 point advantage.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodland Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isaiah Hunt, who rushed for 103 yards on only 14 carries, and also threw for 72 yards and a touchdown. Devin Herrera was another key contributor, gaining 118 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Banning waltzed into Saturday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. They put the hurt on La Jolla Country Day with a sharp 41-21 win.
Banning's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Deangelis led the charge by rushing for 188 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Steven Perez, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns.
Woodland Christian has yet to lose a contest on the road this season, leaving them with a 14-0 record. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.08 points. As for Banning, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's game: Woodland Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Banning struggles in that department as they've been even better at 187.6 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
