High school football rankings: Austin Westlake climbs to No. 3 in MaxPreps Top 25 after winning Texas 6A Division 1 title

Westlake (Austin, Texas) climbed one spot to No. 3 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings after its 52-34 win over Carroll (Southlake, Texas) in the Texas 6A Division 1 championship. Four-star junior quarterback Cade Klubnik put on a show, completing 18 of 20 passes for 220 yards and a score while adding 97 yards rushing and two more touchdowns.

It was Westlake's third state title in school history, winning the 6A Division 2 crown last year and the first in 1996 with Drew Brees under center.

The loss dropped the Southlake Carroll to No. 15 but expect the Dragons and Quinn Ewers – the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2022 – to be back in title contention next season.

Denton Ryan claimed its first title since 2002 and moved up to No. 8 after a dominant 59-14 win over previously undefeated Cedar Park in the 5A Division 1 championship.

Katy moved up two spots to No. 17 after beating previously-ranked Cedar Hill 51-14 in the 6A Division 2 title game. The Tigers rushed for over 300 yards while the defense forced three turnovers, turning two into defensive touchdowns. It was the school's first state title since 2015 and ninth of all-time.

Only Aledo has won more as the Bearcats claimed their 10th state title with a 56-21 win over Crosby in the 5A Division 2 championship.

Bixby (Okla.) was the lone newcomer in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 after Cedar Hill dropped out. The Spartans have won 36 consecutive games and three straight 6A-II state championships.
