Baseball Recap: Hiawatha Takes a Loss

Hiawatha had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it five. They lost 11-5 to the Indian Creek Timberwolves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hawks of the 18-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Hiawatha saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Jindrich, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Indian Creek's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-21. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Indian Creek's side, Giovanni Data made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Data a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Indian Creek let Jacob Coulter and Kian Pearson run wild. Coulter went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Pearson went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two RBI gave Coulter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jason Brewer, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

While Hiawatha had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
