Recap: Atkinson County Rebels vs. St. Amant Gators
The Atkinson County Rebels pushed their score all the way to 58 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to St. Amant on the road by a decisive 73-58 margin. While losing is never fun, Atkinson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 227th in Georgia, while St. Amant is ranked 42nd in Louisiana).
Despite the defeat, Atkinson County saw an underclassman step up: Ja'Kari Northcutt scored 24 points. Kamari Moore was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Atkinson County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for St. Amant, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Atkinson County is on the road again on January 5, 2024 and play against Georgia Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Georgia Christian is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. St. Amant will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Port Allen at 5:30 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
