Football Recap: Iona Prep Piles Up the Points Against St. Anthony's

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Iona Prep walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat the St. Anthony's Friars 42-0. That looming 42-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Gaels yet this season.

Iona Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Crew Davis, who rushed for 162 yards and one touchdown while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 75 receiving yards. That's the most rushing yards Davis has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Julian Guzman, who rushed for 65 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Iona Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 248 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Anthony's only rushed for 49.

Iona Prep didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Zander Poole and Brennen Pressley. Pressley got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The victory (which was Iona Prep's third in a row) raised their record to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.3 points on average over those games. As for St. Anthony's, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-5.

Iona Prep wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 42-20 victory against Monsignor Farrell on the 22nd. St. Anthony's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
