Basketball Recap: Maleigha Younkin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Ferndale

Turkeyfoot Valley Area won the last time they faced Ferndale and things went their way on Friday too. The Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ferndale Yellow Jackets, sneaking past 51-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Turkeyfoot Valley Area to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maleigha Younkin, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards. Younkin has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 17 times she's played. Shyanne Schur was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven rebounds.

Turkeyfoot Valley Area was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Turkeyfoot Valley Area's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Ferndale, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.

Turkeyfoot Valley Area will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Northern Garrett at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Ferndale, they will venture away from home to square off against Claysburg-Kimmel at 7:45 p.m. on December 27th.
