Basketball Recap: Faith Christian Saints vs. Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy Cougars
If the Faith Christian Saints were riding high off their 76-43 takedown of the Still Creek Christian Colts last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Faith Christian took a 74-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Faith Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1378th, while the Cougars are ranked 605th).
When it comes to explaining why Faith Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dylan Martinez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 33 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 51.6% of Faith Christian's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Avila, who scored 15 points.
Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy had a senior duo take command as Jaimon Joseph scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals and Jayden Blake-Benard scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Joseph has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ayden Boyd, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Faith Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-1.
Faith Christian will head out on the road to face off against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully True North focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Saturday. As for Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Still Creek Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Friday.
