Softball Recap: Needles Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Needles had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt GV Christian on Wednesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Guardians with a sharp 18-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 14 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Summer Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Needles got a massive performance out of Liana DeLeon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI DeLeon has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmerson Powell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Needles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .714. They are 16-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Needles pushed their record up to 20-6 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for GV Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Needles will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Guardians: the pair will be back at it again later today.
