Basketball Recap: Wetumpka Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Wetumpka had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 70-66 to the Pike Road Patriots on Thursday. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Andrew Voyles and Chris Robinson certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Voyles went 7-for-12 en route to 25 points and five rebounds, while Robinson dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists. Voyles is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was John Hudson Wingard, who posted eight points and eight boards.

Coming up, Wetumpka won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Prattville Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pike Road, they will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge JAG at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
