Baseball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

Mitchell had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 8-6 to make it four. They fell 5-1 to the West Washington Senators. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bluejackets of the 13-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Mitchell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake King, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Dasen Kerr was another, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

As for West Washington, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

On West Washington's side, Iziah Dennis was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Dennis is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryce Heishman, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Mitchell will square off against Bedford North Lawrence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bluejackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Stars have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for West Washington, they will take on Christian Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
