Softball Recap: Boyceville Comes Up Short

After flying high against Elmwood/Plum City on Tuesday, Boyceville came back down to earth. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Colfax Vikings by a score of 4-2 on Friday. The match marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Aubrey Malean spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Boyceville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Lain, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Zoey Hellendrung also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Boyceville's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Colfax, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Boyceville is set to take on their familiar foe Spring Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in the Bulldogs' favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Cardinals have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, Colfax will face off against rival Mondovi at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
