Softball Recap: Northampton Comes Up Short

Northampton had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it six. They lost 7-1 to the East Longmeadow Spartans. If the Blue Devils were looking for revenge after losing 17-4 to the Spartans when the teams met back in May of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for East Longmeadow, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-4. Considering they have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For East Longmeadow's part, Riley McCauley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. McCauley has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, East Longmeadow let Emma Maurer and Eve Butler run wild. Maurer went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Butler went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Butler has posted since back in April.

As of now, neither Northampton nor East Longmeadow have any future games scheduled.
