Softball Recap: Pine Tree Takes a Loss

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Pine Tree's offense. They came up short against the Gilmer Buckeyes on Tuesday, falling 9-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Buckeyes: they've now lost five in a row.

Taylor Burkhart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

Pine Tree's loss dropped their record down to 9-17-1. As for Gilmer, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4-2 record this season.

Pine Tree does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gilmer, they will face off against Kilgore at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.61 runs per game on average), something the Buckeyes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
