Basketball Game Preview: Amite Warriors vs. Springfield Bulldogs

The Amite Warriors will head out to take on the Springfield Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Amite blew past Sumner, posting a 62-30 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Meanwhile, Springfield entered their tilt with South Terrebonne last Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Gators by a score of 60-52.

Amite better keep an eye on Nickaiya Martin. She was instrumental in Springfield's win, going 8 of 15 en route to 18 points along with seven boards and six blocks. The dominant performance gave Martin a new career-high in blocks. Raylan Smith was another key player, going 5 for 12 on her way to 11 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Springfield's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Amite, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.

Everything came up roses for Amite against Springfield when the teams last played back in January of 2018, as the team secured a 75-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Amite since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
