Baseball Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs

The Smithfield-Selma Spartans will challenge the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 25 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Smithfield-Selma and three for Southeast Raleigh.

Smithfield-Selma fell victim to West Johnston and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 22-0 to the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, Southeast Raleigh came up short against Willow Spring on Friday, falling 16-5. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by exactly 11 runs.

Troy Scott and Grayson Dove did some serious damage despite the final result: Scott scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Dove scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Dove is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Smithfield-Selma's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Southeast Raleigh, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Smithfield-Selma couldn't quite finish off Southeast Raleigh in their previous meeting last Wednesday and fell 9-7. Can Smithfield-Selma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
