Wellington School and Millersport are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Lakers at 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Wellington School's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Millersport's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Wellington School's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Grove City Christian hitters got past them. The Jaguars lost 11-1 to the Eagles on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Jaguars have suffered since April 26, 2024.
Meanwhile, Millersport got the win against Fisher Catholic on Friday by a conclusive 11-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lakers.
Owen Everitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Darian Smith and Cash Inman did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Inman went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Eiginger, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Millersport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.
Millersport's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Wellington School, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-4 record this season.
Everything went Wellington School's way against Millersport when the teams last played on April 7th, as Wellington School made off with a 14-0 victory. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
