Softball Preview: Coastal Academy Stingrays vs. Bishop's Knights

The Coastal Academy Stingrays will challenge the Bishop's Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Coastal Academy 4.1, Bishop's 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Coastal Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Valley Center 8-1. The Stingrays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.

Sunday Mcduffee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Mcduffee was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Cayla Contreras was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Bishop's might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Tri-City Christian who claimed the real prize. The Knights took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Sydney Mafong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jayla Stafford was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Coastal Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Bishop's, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3-1.
