Wauconda has gone 9-1 against Grant Community recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. Wauconda will square off against Grant Community at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Wauconda is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Round Lake to the tune of 77-18 on Friday. The victory was just business as usual for the Bulldogs, who after five games remain undefeated this season.
Cole Korycanek had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 136 yards and three TDs on only six carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in September of 2024.
Wauconda didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Round Lake to a completion percentage of just 47.8%. The Bulldogs weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 66.7%.
Meanwhile, Grant Community hadn't done well against Grayslake North recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bulldogs blew past the Knights, posting a 40-12 win. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Knights are ranked 368th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wauconda better keep an eye on Matthew Gipson. He was instrumental in Grant Community's win, throwing for 234 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes, while also punching in a pair of scores on the ground. Another back making a difference was Tyler Zdon, who rushed for 117 yards and one TD on only ten carries.
Wauconda's record is now 5-0. As for Grant Community, their record now sits at 4-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Wauconda has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 417.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Grant Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging 198.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Wauconda took their victory against Grant Community when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 37-13 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wauconda since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
