Softball Game Preview: Stanton County Trojans vs. Lakin Broncs

Stanton County is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Lakin Broncs at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Last Thursday, Stanton County got the win against Ness City by a conclusive 19-3. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Kaydence McCleary made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McCleary was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Kynzi Fehringer was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Summer Kendrick was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Lakin didn't have quite enough to beat Colby on Friday and fell 13-12. The loss continues a trend for the Broncs in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost eight in a row.

Lileah Villa was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Sarah Peters, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Stanton County's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Lakin, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
