Baseball Recap: Buford Yellow Jackets vs. Central Eagles
Buford extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 13-9 in the process. They came up short against the Central Eagles, falling 7-1. The Yellow Jackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Gavin Lowery was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base.
As for Central, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th (when they won 10-1).
On Central's side, Cody Branham was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Branham has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Central's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 4-12 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Logan Olney was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
While Buford had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
