Football Recap: Midland Takes a Loss

Midland extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a 31-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Amarillo Sandies. Surprisingly, this marked the Bulldogs' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

As for Amarillo, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.0 points over those games.

Amarillo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Austin Sluder led the charge by picking up 133 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Those three receiving touchdowns gave Sluder a new career-high. Amarillo also got a significant boost from Jude Dunavin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

Midland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-35 victory against Montwood on the 19th. As for Amarillo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 35-14 loss against Palo Duro on the 19th.
