Basketball Game Preview: North Gaston Wildcats vs. South Point Red Raiders

The North Gaston Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the South Point Red Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Gaston has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 28.

North Gaston is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Ashbrook on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. North Gaston had to suffer through a 74-30 loss at the hands of Ashbrook. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 535th, while the Greenwave are ranked 250th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Point, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Crest 57-31 on Tuesday. The Red Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 23 points or more this season.

South Point is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points over those games. As for North Gaston, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-20.

North Gaston took a serious blow against South Point in their previous meeting back in January, falling 58-30. Can North Gaston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
