Baseball Recap: Poth's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Poth had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They blew past the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs 13-0. Considering the Pirates have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Austin Simmons and Major Luna made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Simmons pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Luna tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Simmons scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Luna got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Clark, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Walker Stevens, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Poth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Poth pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Nixon-Smiley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Poth is set to take on their familiar foe Karnes City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Nixon-Smiley will face off against rival Goliad at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
