Basketball Game Preview: Moffat Cowboys vs. Sierra Grande Panthers

Moffat hasn't had much luck against Sierra Grande recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Moffat Cowboys will square off against the Sierra Grande Panthers at 6:30 p.m.

Moffat is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They were outmatched by Creede and fell 59-30. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cowboys have suffered against the Miners since February 24, 2021.

Despite the loss, Moffat saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chase Shellabarger almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Shellabarger.

Meanwhile, Sierra Grande entered their tilt with Kim/Branson on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 70-59.

Moffat now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Sierra Grande, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Moffat came up short against Sierra Grande in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 48-43. Can Moffat avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
