Basketball Recap: Valencia Takes Down Ranked St. Pius X

On Tuesday, Valencia faced St. Pius X in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Valencia Jaguars came out on top against the St. Pius X Sartans by a score of 41-31. For the Jaguars, this counts as revenge for the 49-44 win the Sartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Valencia was led to victory by Jaiden Montgomery and Francesca Otero. Montgomery went 6 for 7 en route to 16 points and seven boards, while Otero posted 13 points. That's the most points Otero has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Izabel Zamora, who put up six points.

Valencia is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for St. Pius X, they moved to 12-7 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Highland the next time they take the court. Valencia will host Highland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while St. Pius X will host them at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th.
