Preview: Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels vs. Clarksville Indians
The Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels will face off against the Clarksville Indians at TBD on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Gladbrook-Reinbeck faced Central City in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went Gladbrook-Reinbeck's way against Central City as Gladbrook-Reinbeck made off with a 36-12 win. Winning may never get old, but Gladbrook-Reinbeck sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Meanwhile, Clarksville put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Iowa Valley 50-8 at home. That's two games straight that Clarksville has won by exactly 42 points.
Clarksville can attribute much of their success to Owen Backer, who rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, and Makade Bloker, who rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Bloker is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last nine games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Iowa Valley to a paltry 204 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Clarksville's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Rex Ross and Bodhi Ellerman who racked up four sacks between them.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck's win was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. As for Clarksville, their victory bumped their record up to 12-0.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck couldn't quite finish off Clarksville in their previous meeting back in October and fell 38-36. Can Gladbrook-Reinbeck avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
