Football Game Preview: Vestal Golden Bears vs. Maine-Endwell Spartans

Vestal is 0-5 against Maine-Endwell since September of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Golden Bears will look to defend their home field against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Vestal will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 13 points last Friday, then bounced right back against Binghamton on Saturday. The Golden Bears breezed past the Patriots to the tune of 42-6. The Golden Bears haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Josh Kweller was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 199 yards and five TDs while completing 90% of his passes. Those 199 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Maine-Endwell posted their closest win since September 28, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Owego Free Academy, sneaking past 8-6.

Maine-Endwell's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Vestal, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Vestal was dealt a bruising 42-7 loss at the hands of Maine-Endwell when the teams last played back in September of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Golden Bears were down 35-0.
