Softball Recap: Summit Comes Up Short

Summit had lost 15 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 0-18 to make it 16. They came up short against the Mountain View Cougars, falling 23-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

As for Mountain View, their record now sits at 14-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Mountain View's part, Janelle Guiney was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Guiney has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mountain View got a massive performance out of Camryn Sharp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Sharp has posted since back in March. Blaire Eckman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Summit will face off against Ashland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mountain View, they will square off against Crook County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
