Volleyball Recap: Lakota Comes Up Short

Lakota had taken New Riegel down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Raiders fell just short of the Blue Jackets by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Raiders of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Lakota took New Riegel into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13.

When it comes to explaining why Lakota lost, don't look at Sophia Bomer. Despite the final result, she had 55 assists and 18 digs. Bomer is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 26 games she's played dating back to last season. Addie Gilbert was another key player, getting 18 digs.

Lakota's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for New Riegel, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakota will venture away from home to square off against Northwood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Riegel, they will head out to take on St. Joseph Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crimson Streaks will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Blue Jackets surely won't give up without a fight.
