Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Monterey Trail's Tenth in Last 12 Outings

After losing to Cosumnes Oaks the last time they met, Monterey Trail decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Monterey Trail Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 74-56 victory over the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack on Wednesday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Wolfpack are ranked 644th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monterey Trail got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ahzeil Franklin out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Franklin has posted since back in January of 2024. Dreyden Gullatt also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Despite the loss, Cosumnes Oaks still got an impressive performance from Jeremiah Boatwright, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. The matchup was Boatwright's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Som-Nonog, who posted ten points.

Monterey Trail has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Cosumnes Oaks, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-14.

Monterey Trail didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-61 victory against Franklin on the 24th. As for Cosumnes Oaks, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 68-45 defeat against Pleasant Grove on the 24th.
