Basketball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the Anna Coyotes. The Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Coyotes earlier this season, when they won 59-51.

Anna got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was R.J. Gardner out in front who posted 12 points and five rebounds. Gardner continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lamin Foon, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Anna, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.

Independence will head out to square off against Liberty at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Anna, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-54 defeat against Mt. Pleasant on the 27th.
