Basketball Recap: Jean Agosto's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Le Roy over Spencerport

After flying high against Letchworth last Friday, Le Roy came back down to earth. The Le Roy Oatkan Knights took a 70-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spencerport Rangers on Monday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Oatkan Knights came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Rangers are ranked 394th).

Le Roy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jean Agosto, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. He has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Adam Woodworth, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 12 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Le Roy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Le Roy's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Spencerport, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.

Coming up, Le Roy will challenge Geneseo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Geneseo knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Le Roy likes a good challenge. As for Spencerport, they have already played their next matchup, a 63-53 win against Churchville-Chili on the 12th.
