Basketball Recap: South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] Takes a Loss

South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] lost against Kit Carson back in March of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] Patriots lost to the Kit Carson Wildcats on the road by a 58-42 margin. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sarah Elmore posted 19 points and six boards. The matchup was Elmore's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliana Gutierrez, who put up seven points and four steals.

Kit Carson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Johnson, who went 6-for-9 on her way to 17 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards Johnson has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Allyssa Gekeler, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett]'s defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Kit Carson, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-12.

Looking ahead, South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] will face off against Eads at 4:00 p.m. on March 7th. Eads will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kit Carson, they have already played their next contest, a 52-9 win against Hanover on the 1st.
