Basketball Recap: St. John Woodchucks vs. Midway/Minto Mustangs

St. John won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were beaten by the Midway/Minto Mustangs 74-47. While losing is never fun, the Woodchucks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Mustangs are ranked 21st).

Several Woodchucks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tayden Longie, who went 6 for 13 en route to 16 points. That's the most points Longie has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madden Parisien, who posted 12 points and six boards.

St. John's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-9. As for Midway/Minto, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

St. John will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Park River at 6:30 p.m. As for Midway/Minto, they are taking a road trip to take on Drayton/Valley-Edinburg at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
