Basketball Game Preview: Grimsley Whirlies vs. Page Pirates

The Grimsley Whirlies will challenge the Page Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Friday, Grimsley lost to Northern Guilford on the road by a 52-37 margin.

Meanwhile, Page came up short against Southeast Guilford on Friday and fell 63-53.

Grimsley will need to focus on slowing down Lola Vanore, one of several Page players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 14 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Vanore has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Porsha Thompson, who went 5-for-10 en route to 12 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Page was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Grimsley's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points over those games. As for Page, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.

Grimsley strolled past Page when the teams last played last Friday by a score of 59-44. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Vanore, who went 9-for-15 on her way to 24 points and three steals.
