Baseball Recap: Florence Starts Season with Victory Against Early

Florence had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Early Longhorns on Monday.

Weston Underwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one).

At the plate, Florence let Terry Parker and Kade Barclay loose on the outfield. Parker scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Barclay scored two runs and stole two bases. The dominant performance gave Barclay a new career-high in runs. Dane Gola was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Early's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Florence will have a chance to go back-to-back against Early: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
