Softball Recap: Newkirk Blanks Frontier

Newkirk got themselves on the board against Frontier on Tuesday, but Frontier never followed suit. The Tigers blew past the Mustangs 8-0.

The team relied heavily on Takota Morton, who went 2-for-3 while posting 1 home run, 4 RBI, and 1 stolen base. Nicole Free was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances while logging 2 stolen bases, 2 runs, and 1 walk.

Newkirk took advantage of their speed and finished the game with three stolen bases. They have not posted that few stolen bases since the 18th, when they snagged one.

The victory made it two in a row for Newkirk and bumps their season record up to 2-1. Those wins were due in large part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0.0 runs in those two games. As for Frontier, they are now 1-1, having gone 2-3 since their 3-game winning streak (dating back to last season) ended.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newkirk will challenge Alva at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Frontier, they are on the road again on Thursday to play Morrison at 6:30 p.m.
