Basketball Recap: Chesapeake Gets the Win

Chesapeake won the last time they faced Southern Maryland Christian Academy and Kiery Matkins did her part to make sure it happened again. The Cougars took down the Mustangs 70-52 on Friday for which the team can thank Matkins, who shot 55% from the field en route to 26 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Chesapeake's record now sits at 16-6. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-15.

Chesapeake will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on March 3. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. Southern Maryland Christian Academy has already played their next contest (against Greater Grace Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
