Softball Recap: Johnston City Takes a Loss

Johnston City was the 11-0 winner over Carbondale when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Indians fell 6-1 to the Terriers on Monday. The Indians' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Carlee Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Peyton Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played.

Johnston City now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Carbondale, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-8 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnston City will face off against Pinckneyville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Carbondale, they will head out on the road to challenge East St. Louis at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
