Softball Recap: Linn County Falls to Higbee

Linn County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 13-10 to the Higbee Tigers on Tuesday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

For Higbee's part, Kiersten Rockett and Jayla Schaedel did most of the damage: Rockett struck out 10 batters over 7 innings while giving up 8 earned (and two unearned) runs off 12 hits, while Schaedel went 2-for-3 while posting 2 doubles, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs. Rockett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she has a win in each of her last three appearances. The team also got some help from Kylie Sinklear, who went 3-for-4 while logging 2 runs, 1 stolen base, and 1 RBI.

Linn County's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Higbee, they are now 1-0, having gone 3-2 since their seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) ended.

Coming up, Linn County will look to defend their home field on Friday against Brashear at 5:00 p.m. As for Higbee, they will host La Plata at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
